Our Mission
The association of Japanese University Presses (AJUP) was founded in June 1963 in order to promote scholarship and to contribute to social advancement by publishing scholarly research. AJUP advocates for individual university presses and supports them in their substantial progress to achieve this mission.
The major functions of a university are research, education, and communication with broader society. We consider ourselves as a participant in those functions since we help disseminate the knowledge produced by research through publishing quality textbooks for effective education and other books in various genres both for the general public and for professionals.
In July 2005 AJUP gained the status of an interim corporation with limited liability. We believe this change will allow us to take more significant social responsibility in our role to create a network among academic and other diverse social sectors.
